This policy explains what information SikhsTogether ("SikhsTogether", "we", "us") collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. SikhsTogether is currently in early access, so some features described on our site are still being built.
Where we are today: this site is a set of static pages. There are no accounts, no database and no analytics behind it, and nothing you type into it is sent to us automatically. The early-access form keeps your email address in your own browser, and the contact form opens your own email app. This policy describes things as they actually stand, and flags what will change as those features go live.
1. Who we are
SikhsTogether is a location-based community platform for the Sikh Sangat — helping you find your local Gurudwara Sahib, discover events, support Sikh-owned businesses and find jobs near you. For any privacy question, contact us at [email protected].
2. What we collect
We only collect what we need — and right now that is very little:
- Early-access email — stays on your device for now. When you use the early-access form, your email address is saved in your own browser's local storage. It is not sent to us, to our server, or to anyone else, so we do not currently hold a waitlist at all. Until that form is connected to a real mailing list, joining it does not reach us — so if you want to be sure we've heard from you, email [email protected].
- Messages you send us. Our contact form doesn't submit anything to us either — it opens your own email app with the message filled in, and nothing reaches us unless you choose to send it. Once you do, we keep your message and contact details in our mailbox so we can reply.
- Basic technical data. Like any website, the server that serves these pages, and the CDN in front of it, keep standard access logs (such as IP address, the page requested and browser type) to keep the site secure and working. We use no analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking.
- When accounts launch: once the full platform is live, an account will involve details such as your name, your general location or area, and any listings you choose to create (for example a Gurudwara, business, event or job). None of that exists yet, and we'll update this policy before those features go live.
3. How we use your information
Today the only personal information that reaches us is what you send us yourself, and we use it to:
- Respond to your messages and provide support.
- Keep this site secure, available and working (the access logs described above).
Once the early-access list and accounts are live, we will also use your email address to tell you when SikhsTogether launches in your area, and your account details to show you relevant local community content. We will never sell your personal information, and we won't use your email for anything you didn't sign up for.
4. Legal basis
Where UK/EU data protection law applies, we currently rely on our legitimate interests in running and securing the site (the access logs above) and in replying to messages you choose to send us. We will rely on your consent for early-access emails once the form actually sends them to us — at that point joining the list is the consent, and you'll be able to withdraw it at any time.
5. Sharing your information
We don't sell your data. Today the only third parties involved are the ones that keep the site online — our hosting provider and the CDN in front of it, which handle the access logs described above — and the email provider that carries anything you send to [email protected]. We share nothing with advertisers, and we have no mailing-list or email-marketing provider yet; if we add one, we'll name the change here first. We may also disclose information if required by law. Any listing details you choose to publish (such as a public Gurudwara or business listing) will, of course, be visible to the community once listings exist.
6. Cookies & local storage
This site sets no cookies at all — none for advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking. It uses your browser's local storage for one thing: to keep the email address you entered in the early-access form, saved on your device under the name "stg_waitlist". That copy never leaves your browser and is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can remove it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
7. How long we keep it
We hold no waitlist emails today, because they never leave your browser — the copy on your device stays there until you clear your browser data. Messages you email us are kept only as long as needed to help you. Access logs are kept for a short period as part of normal server operation and are then rotated away. When the early-access form does start sending addresses to us, we'll keep them until we launch in your area and you've had the chance to create an account, or until you ask us to remove you — whichever comes first.
8. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- See what information we hold about you.
- Correct or delete your information.
- Unsubscribe or withdraw consent at any time.
Just email [email protected] and we'll take care of it. Bear in mind that at the moment there is usually nothing on our side to delete: unless you have emailed us, the only record of your address is the copy in your own browser, which you can remove yourself by clearing this site's data.
9. Children
SikhsTogether is intended for adults and families in the community. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll remove it.
10. Changes to this policy
As we build out the platform, we may update this policy. When we make meaningful changes, we'll revise the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, let you know by email.
